Beginner Crochet Hat Class
$40 includes 2 classes (1 week apart), please select the dates from the drop down menu.
Each Class is 2 hours long.
Crochet a basic hat for anyone in your life, big or small. You may come up with an idea of color and/or style and Bobbi the instructor can work with you to have your ideas come together. We can accommodate, ears, pom-poms, swirly attachments (like on the top of an apple). For anything more complicated, please write ahead to ask if this can be worked in.
In this beginner class you will learn:
- How to start a hat (top-down) with a magic loop
- The single crochet stitch
- How to increase stitches
- How to size a hat
- How to read a basic pattern
- -Adding accessories (ears, ties, pom pom, etc.)
- -How to sew in ends
- -the basics of modifying a pattern or going freestyle
Materials: (Please arrive early to buy your materials)
One ball of yarn: Aran Weight (the guage on the label should have a stitch count between 16 and 19 stitches per inch).
1 crochet hook size 5 or 5 and half mm.
1 stitch marker (you can use a paperclip, colourful ones that stand our are better)
Info about instructor:Bobbi Jo, of local yarn store Porch Swing Yarnsomniacs, has been knitting and crocheting since childhood, a passion that she says continues to grow with her. She credits her passion of yarn crafts as her main coping skill and stress relief. "Knitting and crochet have both been sited as great for many health benefits such as decreasing stress, helping to maintain good blood pressure, can be used as a meditation tool, and also helps people pay attention better in meetings as their eyes don't wander around the room distracting them. Plus it is also really gratifying!" Bobbi Jo works on continuously challenging herself by seeking out new techniques to learn, and balances this with often repeating patterns or techniques many times before moving to the next one in order have a good grasp of the functional and technical aspects involved.
